W-Checker

hot-melt presence control sensor W-Checker

The W-Checker is a sensor that checks the presence of hot adhesive (hot-melt) on the products in transit.

the check is not only done on the presence of the adhesive, but also on the width of the supplied line, for this reason, W-Checker is extremely useful for checking the gluing quality on lines that continously spread adhesive on products.

The width of the adhesive gets measured by a special thermal sensor which measures 8 spots of the dispensed adhesive line simultaneously, checking that the read value for each one of them is equal to the “hot” and “cold” conditions set in the setting software.

So, with W-Checker you can not only check the presence of a hot-melt line, but also see if the width of it is the same as the set valuesand highlighting any narrowings or widenings.

The temperature of the 8 are shown in real time on just as many colored LEDs, which indicate the cold spots (led lighted in blue), warm spost (led lighted in yellow) and hot spots (led lighted in white).

The W-Checker is equipped with a Modbus RTU/RS485 interface working at 9600 bps, so it can be connected to systems which use this baseline.

The connections are made easier through a RJ45 connector installed on the W-Checker, which can be paired with any common ethernet connection cable. For connections between ethernet cable and electric panel (power supply, alarm signal, Modbus line etc.) the interconnection CB-CHECKER board is given, which is mounted on a DIN bar and is equipped with a RJ45 connector and screw terminals.

Through the setting software, you can set the functioning parameters:

  • Synchronization between opening/closing the gun and the effective reading of the data. This function acivates the possibility to take to consideration the distance between the gun and the W-Checker sensor, compensating the reading delays and the time that the adhesive takes from the point where it is supplied to the reading point
  • Sensor response time (commutation time between no alarm⇒alarm and vice versa)
  • Temperature threshold for cold/hot zone differentiation
  • Hysteresis between hot and cold temperature
  • temperature gap between warm (yellow LED) and hot (white LED) zones
  • Which temperature zones need to be considered as hot or cold.

The video on the side shows how the W-Checker sensor works applied on a hot-melt spreading line. In the video, a forced supply is done to show the guidance of the W-Crecker.

The W-Checker sensor has a field of view that can cover up to a 55° angle, for this reason, it’s possible to decide the focused area depending on the distance from the adhesive line.

The picture on the side showsthe size of the focused object depending on the reading distance.
