Programmable driver with over-boost and PLC functions

The NEPTUNE-PLUS driver has been designed to solve many problems related to the operation speed of electromechanic or electropneumatic actuators powered with 24Vdc (electrovalves, electric brakes, solenoids etc.).
You can significantly reduce the response time (activation) of the actuators connected to it, which causes an increment in their working speed. The reduction of the activation time is obtained through sending a momentary overvoltage signal, which magnetizes the actuator in less time compared to the default 24Vdc voltage supply. By using a momentary overvoltage, the actuators’ performance increases without causing them to overheat or get damaged.
The NEPTUNE-PLUS has a new programmable logic system which implements some signature functions of the PLC.

The NEPTUNE-PLUS driver has 9 inputs:

  • The inputs I1-I6 can be paired with the 2 outputs with functions programmable by the user
  • The inputs I7-I9 can be used to manage special functions (enables, disables, encoder connection)

The NeptunePlus can be set up in different ways, using the RS485 serial port ModBus™ RTU protocol it is provided with:

  • Trough PC with NeptunePlus-COM software
  • Through the WB485 program interface and the NeptuneApp App for Android™
  • using any programmation terminal (industrial PC, touch screen, etc.) equipped with ModBus™ RTU standard serial port*

There are many programmable paramaters:

  • Status of the inputs which makes the outputs activate
  • Activation time of the outputs, enabling and length of the work pause function, activation and deactivation delays
  • Enable the precision timer function
  • Enable/disable the memory function (start/stop), which needs to be used, for example, to pilot clutch-brake groups
  • Enable signal synchronization encoder settings

Through NEPTUNE-PLUS so it’s possible to carry out many jobs that usually require incresing the complexity of the control panel like for example:

  • Accurate reduction og the time needed by the actuator to go from the resting state to the operating state (in the case of electrovalves, the time is reduced by 30-50%)
  • Activation functions of an actuator when there is more than one control signal at the same time
  • Actuator control with very precise and constant tempo, also when there are control signals of irrgular durations
  • Having the chance to control the actuator and make it work not only in a continous way, but also fragmented (with working times and pauses programmable by the user), for the whole duration of the control signal. this function, in the adhesive supply field, guarantees a relevant saving regarding the quantity of adhesive supplied, with huge economical and environmental benefits.
  • Control clutch/brake groups and reduce the switching time between the braking condition and clutch insertion.
  • The chance to manage even variable speed lines thanks to the encoder input.

The NEPTUNE-PLUS is equipped with auto-diagnostics functions which reveal any anomalies about charging (overload), increasing reliability and helping you identify the altered working conditions.

Compared to other systems, the NEPTUNE-PLUS driver offers many benefits:

Easy to install: both on new and already existent systems:

  • The NEPTUNE-PLUS is inserted along the cables that connect the actuator with the control system (PLC, cam-controller etc.) without needing specific precautions.
  • For it to work, it only needs to be powered at a voltage of 24Vdc, thanks to its internal converter which generates the overvoltage.

Protect the actuators: the overvoltage pulse lasts a few milliseconds, for this reason, overheating of the controlled coils is avoided, which would cause damage. This consequence often happens in systems where the actuators get powered with higher voltages than the nominal one.

Programmability: of the duration of the overvoltage pulse (over-boost), the activation time of the outputs and all the functions connected to them (group of the inputs, memory functions, etc).
