ENC-ADAPTER - ENC-ADAPTER

The ENC-ADAPTER interface has been designed to solve numerous problems of interfacing between encoder equipped with various types and systems that require encoder outputs push-pull, PNP or NPN.
At the interfacing function real ENC-ADAPTER joins that of the divider, which allows to reduce the frequency generated by the encoder when it is higher than the maximum manageable by the adapter that is connected downstream.

In the figure below it is shown the block diagram of the ENC-ADAPTER.

The following blocks are visible:

  1. Adapter/duplicator: is the block attached to the dedicated input to the encoder equipped with line-driver outputs. In addition to allowing the connection between encoder and interface also performs the doubler function of the pulses generated by the encoder. This function allows to double the connected encoder resolution
  2. Adapter: is the block attached to the dedicated input to the encoder with outputs PNP, NPN or push-pull. Instead of block 1 of this entrance is not made no duplication.
  3. Pulse generator: is the block that generates a fixed frequency that can be used together with the divider block in order to obtain predetermined frequencies, which are useful, for example, to the simulation of an encoder on lines that are not equipped.
  4. Selection of operating mode: allows you to select which of the three signal sources (line-driver encoder, PNP/NPN encoder or pulse generator) must be used to drive the output.
  5. Divider 1:2 – 1:4096 which manages the division of the set frequency in block 4, sending it to the exit. By means of an enable/disable input (stop signal divider) it is possible to block the divisor (in this way the output will not be present no pulse).
  6. Divisor selector included/excluded: it allows to determine whether the pulses generated by the encoder (or by the internal generator) must pass through the divider or if you need to reach the exit without further processing.

(1) Le frequenze indicate sono vincolate a quella massima in uscita dall’interfaccia, che non deve essere superata per evitare funzionamenti anomali. Se, ad esempio, viene selezionato il modo di funzionamento con il generatore d’impulsi interno e viene impostato un fattore di divisione minore di 1:4 (1:1 o 1:2) l’interfaccia ENC-ADAPTER potrebbe funzionare in modo irregolare, dato che la frequenza in uscita dovrebbe superare quella massima di 1MHz.

It is possible to run a 2-channel encoder with ENC-adapter card?

The ENC-ADAPTER card can not handle 2-channel encoder (CHA and CHB), since it is provided with a single output, therefore it is not suitable to divide the frequency generated by the encoder if there is the need to use both channels of one and the same

In the case of using Line-driver encoder it is recommended to connect to both channels tab, to prevent the unused input can create output malfunctions. The use of both channels allows you to duplicate the frequency that will be used by ENC-ADAPTER in the signal processing carried out by stages 5 (Divider 1: 2- 1: 4096) and 6 (divisor selector included / excluded). By setting the division factor of 1: 1 and using the Line-driver input frequency supplied from the card will be twice that of entry.

instead using the dedicated input to the encoder PNP, NPN or Push-pull will not be any duplication of frequency.
